Inaugural Meeting of the Thailand Branch

The inaugural meeting of the Thailand Branch of the Nagoya University Alumni Association took place at the Rama Gardens Hotel in Bangkok on Wednesday, December 14, 2005. The meeting opened with a greeting by Nagoya University President Shin'ichi Hirano and NUAL Executive Coordinator Yoshito Itoh, following which the branch officers were appointed. Neungpanich Sinchaisri, the Branch chairman, received the official NUAL Branch banner and certificate from Hirano. The general meeting turned out to be a splendid celebration of the Branch's foundation, bringing together around forty alumni including former University students living in Thailand. Also present were Tetsuo Kakehi, chairman of the NUAL Kansai Branch, and Toshiyuki Takemoto, first secretary at the Embassy in Thailand.

At the informal gathering that followed the general meeting, an opening speech was given by Emeritus Professor Tetsuo Saito, noted for his many contributions to activities in the Thailand Branch. The party was marked by a friendly atmosphere, and alumni could be seen everywhere sharing memories of Nagoya University.
