Two Nagoya University Graduates Receive Foreign Minister's Commendations
Cambodian graduates of Nagoya University, Mr. Chet Chealy, the Rector of the Royal University of Phnom Penh, and Mr. Hor Peng, the Rector of the National University of Management, have received the Japanese Foreign Minister's Commendations for FY2017.
The Foreign Minister's Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries/areas. The Commendations also aim to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients.
Mr. Chet and Mr. Hor have been selected to receive the Commendations for their promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and Cambodia.

Dr. Le Thanh Long, the chairperson of the Vietnam Branch of NUAL, was appointed Minister of Justice of Vietnam
We are very glad to inform you that Dr. Le Thanh Long, the chairperson of the Vietnam Branch of NUAL, was appointed Minister of Justice of Vietnam on April 9, 2016.
Mr. Le received a doctorate from the Graduate School of Law of Nagoya University and returned to Vietnam in 2003. Since then, he has held prominent positions at the Vietnamese Ministry of Justice. He has also served as the chairperson of the Vietnam Branch of NUAL since its establishment in September 2007.
He became the first Nagoya University alumnus who has assumed a ministerial post in his/her country. It is a great pleasure and honor for all of us, and NU alumni as well as faculty and staff members all wish to express hearty congratulations to him.

GSID's Silver Jubilee Commemorative International Symposium
“A New Era of Development Research and Teaching: The SDGs and Beyond”
Graduate School of International Development (GSID) founded in 1991will be celebrating 25 years in 2016.
To mark this auspicious occasion, GSID will organize an international symposium on July 29, 2016 (Friday).
Some of our distinguished alumni will be invited to give keynote speeches and join a discussion. GSID Alumni
Association would like to take this opportunity to call on our alumni scattered in Japan and overseas to join
this special event. For those who cannot come to Nagoya, they may participate in this event via a TV
conference system at Nagoya University Overseas Offices in Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines.
After the International Symposium, a reception is scheduled for our alumni, current students and
professors to renew their old and new friendship.
