Inaugural Meeting of the Vietnam Branch
The Vietnam Branch of the Nagoya University Alumni Association held its inaugural meeting on Friday, September 7, 2007, at the Daewoo Hotel in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi. The meeting was timed to coincide with the opening of the Nagoya University Research and Education Center for Japanese Law at Hanoi Law University.
The meeting opened with a speech in which Nagoya University President Shin'ichi Hirano expressed his gratitude to the Vietnam Branch for following in the footsteps of the previous five overseas NUAL branches and asserted Nagoya University's commitment to promoting international exchange. Following this, NUAL Executive Coordinator Yoshito Itoh conveyed NUAL President Shoichiro Toyoda's congratulations and gave an account of NUAL's establishment and principles.
Next, Le Thanh Long, secretary of the Vietnam Branch, received the official NUAL Branch certificate and banner from Hirano. Long spoke on behalf of the Vietnamese alumni, saying how very pleased they were that the Vietnam Branch had been founded, and that they hoped to follow the principles of NUAL, sharing University and Alumni Association information and contributing to international exchanges.
In addition to the large number of former students at the general meeting, several Japanese currently living in Vietnam were also present, bringing the attendance of this highly successful gathering to around 70 people.
After the inaugural meeting, a commemorative photograph was taken of Hirano and the Nagoya University graduates with the banner. A pleasant party followed to celebrate both the founding of the Vietnam Branch and that of the Research and Education Center for Japanese Law.
